I’m so confused about celebrity fashion/jewelry lines. Do they really have a heavy design hankering or do they just put their name on products for more exposure? I asked myself this question when I heard Alicia Keys was the latest celeb to find themselves designing. Her new jewelry line, The Barber’s Daughters, will be selling at New York’s Collette Blanchard Gallery downtown.
She linked up with jewelry designer Gisele Theriault for a line of sterling silver and gemstone pieces with inscriptions from Masaru Emoto’s prayer and poetry book called The Hidden Messages in Water.
I guess it is great PR for the designer who is catching a break by attaching their name to a celebrity, but sometimes I wonder how involved the celebs actually are in the design process. Theriault says she and Alicia “found a beautiful harmony with each other” and Keys started her own company, AK Worldwide, which will help her focus on non-music related projects.
