Headed to the tents later this week? Is this your first time? You’re going to need to pack some essentials in what I like to call the emergency kit.
After a few seasons, I have perfected my version of the NYFW emergency kit. Here are a few items from my kit that I hope will bring you needed relief from the “Fashion Olympics”. In addition, each item is affordable and you can find all at convenient locations right in Manhattan.
You’ll definitely want to add something for your foot troubles: moleskin. This heavy cotton fabric is coated with an adhesive backing and can be cut in various shapes and sizes so that any uncomfortable shoe-related pain (and there WILL be uncomfortable shoe-related pain) becomes manageable. Remember: the tents are so crowded you’ll be lucky to get a seat in between shows, let alone during them. Moleskin can be found at any drugstore, but for Bryant Park convenience try the Duane Reade at 1430 Broadway (where West 40th meets Broadway).
In between shows, after-parties, interviews and all that running around, your scalp is producing a ton of moisture and you may not have time to head back for a shower. You’ll need some dry shampoo. Dry shampoo is powder-based and when applied soaks up that moisture and freshens the scalp. Head to Beauty 35 (505 8th Avenue between West 35th & 36th) and pick up a tiny can of Psssssst Instant Spray Shampoo.
Unless you’re planning on waiting to order from ‘wichcraft (good luck), you may not get to eat three meals a day. That’s why I like to throw a few Kashi TLC Granola Bars in my kit. Each bar boasts at least 4g of Fiber and 5-7g of Protein, so they are great to keep you going. Pick them up at Whole Foods Union Square.
What bits and bobs do you add to your Fashion Week kit? Let us know in the comments. See you at the Tents!
