Well the nail is officially in the coffin for anyone who was still holding on to the dream that Paul Sevigny and Co. would reopen the Beatrice Inn in its previous location.
This past weekend I went to Ideya for brunch with my good friend Lindsay Luv. I had heard the food was pretty good but I didn’t have high expectations.
It’s a little Cuban-fusion spot in SoHo in the middle of club brunch central. This looked like a great little place to eat and get some food in your stomach before raging and drinking rose on ice for the next five hours.
But looks can be deceiving.
Su Casa was my love, until they changed EVERYTHING about it. And then they randomly shut down. And now they’re open again. I was lured there with a promise of quesedillas and tequila from Mike and Aleksey, so of course I swallowed my pride and went.
Back when I wrote that Dos Caminos was takin over Vento’s space, I wondered how Los Dados felt. We looks like they decided to close. Peep the email they sent out:
I met a few friends last weeks for drinks at the barbecue restaurant/bar, Brother Jimmy’s (Murray Hill). I’m not going to lie, Thursday nights there are pretty intense and it made me feel like I was back in college. The younger crowd definitely sets the “college feel” along with the variety of fans cheering on their teams on the many large television screens they have around the place.
I am obsessed with bowling. If I had time I would join a league. Seriously. Well as if Monday night unlimited glow in the dark bowling wasn’t enough, Bowlmor Lanes is bringing is a 90,000 square foot bowling alley to Times Square in October. Located in the former New York Times building on 44th Street, it will be a multi-level bowler’s paradise and the second flagship location for the company.
I’m not going to lie, the minute Paul Sevigny said Kenmare would not be the new Beatrice Inn because “there’s never going to be a new Beatrice… Beatrice is not a franchise,” I stopped stalking it. And while I was ignoring it like a jilted lover, it opened. Well not really, but you know what I mean.
According to UrbanDaddy, Kenmare is a “cavernous underground space decked with red leather banquettes and mottled stone columns that look like they were taken from an Egyptian tomb” and according to GuestofaGuest they are in trouble with the SLA already.
Not only has Day & Night and The Eldridge decided to team up for another brunch, but they are bringing my FAVORITE DJ, DJ Equal, with them. I need to find a word bigger than epic because that is what this will be.
I’m totally on the late train with this, BUT Dos Caminos is coming to the Meatpacking District. Vento is closed and DC is taking over. I LOOOOOVE Dos Caminos and am so happy there will be one in two months that walking distance from my house!
