I have been a volunteer for Gen Art for the last three years and I am very sad to learn that co-founders, Ian and Stefan Gerard, have pulled the plug on the organization due to financial hardship.
Gen Art was an organization that gave creative people in film, fashion, art and other industries the connections, money and support they needed to become successful. Aside from the Gen Art Film Festival in New York, there were also film festivals around the country and Gen Art also played a large role at Sundance.
This was a wonderful organization that launched the careers of many greats. One many of you may know is Zac Posen. He is a Gen Art Styles alumni and is currently one of the biggest names in fashion.
It is sad that even though art is a large part of our lives, there isn’t enough funding for amazing organizations like Gen Art. Hopefully when the economy picks back up, Gen Art and all the wonderful work they do will resume. The sad closing letter is below.
