If you were not at the The Oak Room on Saturday you missed one hell of a party. If the past seasons of Day & Night brunch were epic, this season was epicer. Is that a word? F-it, it is.
I rolled up to the main entrance of The Plaza and had to scoot my way through a wedding party (bridesmaids and all) to find the Oak Room. Once inside I heard DJ Claudius Raphael on the decks, saw the sparklers coming out by the dozen and unsuccessfully tried to dodge the champagne showers that were EVERYWHERE.
The table next to me spent close to $75,000 on brunch. You read that correctly… on brunch. That is more than some people make in a year. That’s more than an entire year of law school. And this wasn’t even on champagne that was consumed. This was on champagne strictly bought to make it rain. It took every ounce of willpower I had to not ask the head of the table to fund my JD.
I wonder how much the cleaning bill was in the aftermath. I think I heard someone say that since The Plaza is a landmarked building, they can’t use harsh chemicals on any of the surfaces. That also probably means they can’t power wash that room.
Let’s see if it smells like stale champagne next week. Until then I will keep wondering…. what recession?
