This past weekend I went to Ideya for brunch with my good friend Lindsay Luv. I had heard the food was pretty good but I didn’t have high expectations.
It’s a little Cuban-fusion spot in SoHo in the middle of club brunch central. This looked like a great little place to eat and get some food in your stomach before raging and drinking rose on ice for the next five hours.
But looks can be deceiving.
Now don’t get me wrong. The food was DELICIOUS. The beef and the cheese empanadas were juicy and perfectly cooked. The chorizo was phenomenal and their spin on eggs benedict hit the spot. But the service was terrible.
We got our plantains and salsa while we were eating, we asked for water that we didn’t get until we were almost done and they took forever to even ask to refill our drinks.
We asked for our food to be coursed and they brought it out all together anyway so we had to ask them to bring our entrees back. Then after we finished our appetizers we must have sat there for about 15 minutes waiting for food that had already been prepared! I’m not even going to talk about what happened with the flowers.
Now I tried to cut the waiter some slack since he was the only one working, but when I’m sitting at the table sans food or water and you’re dancing at the bar, I’m going to be a little peeved.
I was so pissed off by the time I got the food I had to “woosa” to enjoy it.
Don’t skip Ideya all together, just call the food in for pick-up.
