The Eldridge: where the drinks are made of Silver and Gold
When I went to the Eldridge on Thursday for Leven‘s welcome home party I also had my date with Matt Levine.
But before Matt came my long-time buddy Cole Bernard. He brought up the P-word (Porky’s) introduced me to some very cool ladies and gave my date and I drink cards. I STILL don’t know what he does over there, but it doesn’t really matter at this point because he pointed me in the direction of Matt Levine.
I’ve read articles about Matt and he never seemed very nice. Now I sounded like Manhattan’s answer to Lauren Conrad in my Blackbook interview, so I should have remembered that interviews with people who wear many masks are never entirely accurate.
I walked up to Matt at the bar and there were smiles and hugs and kisses. We talked for a minute and then it was time for the big moment: the ordering of the Eldridge cocktail.
He had someone go get one for me but I wanted to see how it was made. What I overheard was the bartender telling the server “we don’t give those away for free. ” Now not to be mean but that sentence is a bit repetitive, even after midnight. After some clarification and overruling the $32 cocktail was in my hand.
I held it to my lips, took a sip and it was delicious. But I was a tad disappointed. Now I don’t know what I was expecting but for $32 I wanted a takeover of my tastebuds. But all I had was a tasty glass of champagne. Sigh. Check out the ingredients.
I’m glad it was complimentary because I would never pay $32 for a cocktail, no matter how wonderful it tasted.
But Matt Levine was a sweetheart and he gets major points in my book.
