Unik Ernest…

A few days ago I received a phone call from my very good friend Steve Lewis who said he had a “very important person who would like to speak to me.” That person was none other than Unik Ernest whom I had previously called the “MC Hammer of nightlife.”
Unik had sent me an email the previous week which I had yet to respond to. He ran into Steve, who vouched that I am actually a nice person, and offered to sort it all out. Here’s a snippet from the email:
I am in the branding, marketing and hospitality business. I have produced numerous high profile events and owned some of Manhattan’s most talked about restaurants and nightclubs and I intend to be in this business for the long haul.
I have been using my good fortune every year to give back to my homeland, Haiti, through my non-for-profit organization, Edeyo. Our mission is to raise money and build schools for the impoverished children of Haiti. In the first year alone we managed to raise $50,000. Edeyo’s school is located in the slums of Bel-Air. Through our initiative, this part of the capital has been somewhat stabilized in regards to crime. Children in that neighborhood now have the opportunity to stay off the streets and out of trouble. The Edeyo Foundation has brought a new glimpse of hope to this community.
Now many things have been said about Unik, his finances and his business practices, and some of them have even been by moi, but you have to support someone who gives back to their community in an Oprah-like manner.
I briefly spoke with Unik about the rumors and about his charity and have concluded that he’s not all bad. Many past employees have told me they still have questions and they want answers and I will try my hardest to get them to you. Oprah/Whitney style.
Oh, Unik also said:
If you can prove that I promote The Rivington I will give you 35 million dollars.
Lesson of the day: The people over at Guest of a Guest have no idea what they’re talking about. Control your writers Rachelle! You’re good at what you do, your staff, could use a bit of work.
